Healthy way to Fry......

Ask Glen!

Q. Glen, I love cooking in butter like frying a egg! any alternatives?

A. A little less butter goes a long way when it comes to your health. A great way to reduce the fat you consume without sacrificing taste is to use nonstick vegetable cooking spray instead of butter, margarine or oils to grease your pans. There are many different flavors you can try. If you're not into the spray stuff, then try experimenting with soft tub margarine instead of butter. Another great way to save some extra fat and calories is to use water or steam for cooking vegetables instead of using butter.

Glen's Bottom: Line:Do not fry in butter!

Skin Replenishing Foods

Ask Glen!

Q. Glen, The more i try to eat right! The worse my skin looks! What can i do?

A. If you want to look great, you can't neglect the most obvious part of your body: your skin. Forget investing in expensive skin products. If you really want your skin to radiate, then pay close attention to the foods you eat and what you drink. When it comes to healthy skin, nothing beats the wonders of water. Water helps prevent dry skin and can help make your skin glow by flushing harmful toxins from your body. It's also important to eat plenty of foods high in Vitamins E, C and A. Some of these foods include almonds, apples, blueberries, carrots, low-fat dairy, fish, flaxseed, pomegranate juice and sweet potatoes

Glen's bottom line: You are what you eat!

Color your Plate!

Ask Glen!

Q.Glen, I trying to eat right but when I go out to eat my plate always looks so bland! meat potatoes etc...what should I do?

A. Make every meal a masterpiece by adding fresh new colors to it everyday. Foods with the most colors tend to be the best for you, such as all the variety of vibrant fruits and veggies. The rich colors found in the skin of these brightly colored fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which offer a host of health benefits. On the contrary, foods with the least amount of color are the ones we tend to eat the most of, such as meats, potatoes and bread. Adding more color to your plate will help aid in disease prevention and weight maintenance.

Glen's Bottom line: fruit, vegetables eat them!!!!

Practice Proper Portions

Ask Glen!

Q. Glen, I am eating very healthy! But still gaining weight, Am I doing anything wrong?

A. Maybe, Many of us are so focused on what we should and shouldn't eat that we forget the importance of simply eating the right amount. The truth is if you watch your portions and eat properly you won't have to spend so much time worrying about the foods you should be avoiding. Try serving your meal on a smaller plate or use familiar objects to picture how much you should eat. For example, three ounces of meat is the size of a deck of cards and one ounce of cheese is the size of four dice.

Glen's Bottom Line: Watch the amount of what you eat!

Good Morning Metabolism!

Ask Glen!

Q. Glen,How do I start a healthy lifestyle?

A.The key to a healthy lifestyle begins with a healthy breakfast. A good, hearty meal first thing in the morning is important for refueling your body after a night's sleep. People who skip breakfast experience a drop in blood sugar level, fatigue, irritability and poor concentration throughout the day. Eating a healthy breakfast can raise metabolism by as much as 10 percent. The number-one reason people skip the first meal of the day is time. The truth is, a healthy breakfast can be prepared in mere minutes. A simple bowl of cereal with fruit, a half a turkey sandwich, or a quick smoothie will do the trick.

Glen's Bottom Line: Kick start your morning eat breakfast!

Conquer the Buffet

Ask Glen!

Q. Glen, How can I overcome thetemtation of the Buffet?

A.Here's How: If you're trying to reduce your food intake, probably the worst meal choice you can pick is a buffet - after all, they call it "all you can eat." However, if you end up at one for lunch, or at a work or social function, decide on only three or four items and make at least one a salad or vegetable (excluding potatoes!). If it's a party, don't stand near the buffet the whole time, and under no circumstances should you wear loose clothes! If you're uncomfortable, then you've eaten too much.

Glen's Bottom Line: No buffet!

No-Nonsense Butter Substitute

Ask Glen!

Q. Glen, Is there any real Butter Substitute?

A. Replace butter with Butter Buds. Give yourself a pat on the back by giving up those pats of butter. One tablespoon of butter has 100 calories and 11 grams of fat (7 grams of saturated fat). There's no reason you have to give up the great taste, however. Butter Buds is a low-cholesterol fat-free substitute with just five calories per serving. Use it on your sweet potato, brown rice or baked chicken for a burst of flavor.

Glen's Bottom Line: No Butter!!!!
